Butterfly Cove Inn was a semester-long exploration in building a complete brand system from scratch. Designed for a boutique inn set in Cape Cod, the project included everything from logo design and stationery to room signage and a fully prototyped desktop website. The goal was to design a brand that felt warm, whimsical, and rooted in nature—while maintaining sophistication and usability across print and digital.

Process

After curating a color palette and typeface preference with the client, I decided to go towards a more vintage feel. I created an ovular shape and then placed the text inside in multiple sizing and styles. At first, I thought a simple line drawing of a butterfly and its path would work beautifully; but following an in-class critique, I decided a more detailed butterfly would work best. I adapted vector illustrations to curate the butterfly’s shape.

Final Version

I designed and delivered a full stationery suite: business cards, letterhead, thank you notes, envelopes, and room signage. Each piece carries the brand’s tone—inviting, delicate, and grounded in quiet luxury. Each guest room is also represented with its own butterfly name and motif: Monarch, Admiral, Glasswing, Swallowtail, Crimson Rose, Blue Morpho, Malachite, and Apollo. These signs can be found under my Passion Project page with more in-depth explanation and processes.

Phase 2: Site Map & Wireframe

Before jumping into visual design, I mapped out the site architecture to establish clear, intuitive navigation. I focused on keeping the user journey simple and purposeful—prioritizing key actions like booking a room, exploring upcoming events, and viewing dining options.

Website navigation flowchart with a central landing page branching to four sections: book, contact us, events, and dine with us. Each section has subcategories, such as calendar and suites, info and about us, calendar and book, and restaurant menu.

Once the structure felt right, I built out grayscale wireframes to test layout and hierarchy without the distraction of styling. Each page was designed with usability and clarity in mind—whether it was showcasing rooms, listing events, or prompting reservations. These low-fidelity prototypes were essential for refining flow and content placement before applying the final brand system.

Each wireframe includes placeholders for navigation menus, images, text, and user interaction elements like buttons and contact information. The design is primarily in grayscale with labeled sections.

The final phase involved building a fully interactive desktop site prototype in Figma. I prioritized seamless UX—allowing users to learn about the inn’s story, explore its rooms, book garden tours, and make restaurant reservations. The site was built for visual storytelling, using large-scale imagery, clear hierarchy, and intuitive scroll-based navigation.

Phase 3: Prototype & Refine

To ensure the experience stayed consistent across platforms, I translated the brand’s personality into every interaction—subtle hover effects, soft transitions, and a layout that mirrors the warmth and structure of the inn itself.

Outcome

Butterfly Cove Inn is more than a branding project—it’s a fully realized hospitality ecosystem. From logotype to linen, the system connects every guest touchpoint into one cohesive story. The final deliverables include a complete logo suite, stationery PDF, web prototypes, and branded merchandise.
